GENERAL ANESTHESIA

vancouver veterinary clinic

Deciding to put your pet under general anesthesia can be a scary decision. At Beach Avenue Animal Hospital we are here to put your mind at ease. Modern medicine makes general anesthesia a safe practice. To lower any risk, we also perform a physical exam and (if elected) run blood work. Blood is not necessary when going under anesthesia unless your pet is over five years old, or has a pre-existing medical condition.

At BAAH we administer a drug to provide complete anesthesia and place a breathing tube into the patient’s trachea (windpipe). To maintain the state of unconsciousness, we deliver a gas anesthetic in combination with oxygen through the breathing tube. Your pet will fall asleep quickly, and they will be in out safe care until they are fully awake and stable.
